Summer Bodies Are Made In The Winter

Summer Bodies Are Made In The winter

It’s a phrase we hear a lot this time of year “Summer bodies are made in the Winter”, whether its backing a weight loss programme or trying to entice you into a gymSummer Bodies Are Made In The winter (400 × 600 px) membership. But when we say it, we mean something different…

Although the Winter months may feel cold, dark and gloomy, this time of year is actually the perfect time to up your skincare and invasive treatments.

Why is winter good for skin treatments?

Treatments such as Chemical Peels, Microneedling, PRP, Laser Rejuvenation and Laser Hair Removal all require adequate recovery time for the treatments to work to their best ability and ensure skin safety. All mentioned treatments have one key aftercare advice in common, no sun! Intense sun exposure after these treatments can damage your skin health and cause issues. Having the treatments within the colder months where the sun is hidden behind gloomy skies can be safer for you.

Chemical Peel treatment in the Winter

The Chemical Peel treatment works by exfoliating the skins surface and removing dead skin cells to make way for fresher, new skin. This treatment not only gives your skin an overall glow and freshen up but also targets skin concerns such as pigmentation, ageing, acne, scarring and dull, dehydrated skin. The chemical skin peel penetrates deeper into the skins surface to the epidermis, deeply exfoliating. It works by removing the top layer of skin which in turn stimulates new cell growth resulting in fresher, brighter and clearer skin.

It is recommended that patients have a course of three treatments of the chemical peel procedure for best results. We recommend a break of 6-8 weeks in between treatments. The aftercare for Chemical Peel treatments asks you to wear a high SPF as you skin will be more sensitive to sun exposure. Planning your peels in the winter months will protect your skin from excessive sunlight and get your skin ready to glow all Summer! (You still need to wear SPF every day, peel or no peel!)

Microneedling Treatment in the Winter

Microneedling is another skin treatment saviour when it comes to tackling skin concerns such as fine lines, acne scarring, stretch marks and pigmentation. The treatment causes pin point bleeding which produces a ‘trauma’ to the skin. This ‘trauma’ causes stimulation of your natural collagen which will refresh and rejuvenate the appearance of your skin. Microneedling is a natural treatment can be used all over the face, the décolletage and the hands.  After the procedure you will be looking quite red and may feel very tender (a little like sunburn), therefore it is important to moisturise as much as possible and take care of your skin when in the sun by using an SPF.

We recommend Microneedling to also be completed in a course of three for best results and the colder months can be soothing on the skin after treatment, you also need to be less cautious when going out in between treatments due to the colder climate.

Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment in the Winter

Next on our list of treatments to have in the Winter is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy / The Vampire Facial). PRP works by reintroducing your own blood back into the skin’s tissue, which rejuvenates and promotes new healthy cells whilst healing damaged ones. Unlike traditional cosmetic procedures PRP is revolutionising the aesthetic world, in an unconventional way. Firstly, your blood is taken like a normal blood test, then spun into a system which separates the platelet-rich plasma from the other blood elements creating a high concentration. This is then reintroduced to your body to increase collagen, cell growth, and improve your blood supply and results in younger fresher looking skin.

The same goes for PRP as it does Chemical Peels and Microneedling, we recommend three lots of treatment over the space of a few months to receive the best results possible. There may be some slight tenderness and redness after treatment which will fade quickly, direct sunlight is not advised during the recovery time.

Laser Hair Removal in the Winter

There are so many benefits of having Laser Hair Removal in the Winter and this will truly get you beach body ready if unwanted hair is a concern of yours!

Laser Hair Removal uses near-infrared laser light that is absorbed by the melanin located in the hair follicle. The laser is pulsed for only a fraction of a second. The duration of each pulse is long enough to damage the follicle, without damaging the surrounding tissue. Helping to stop hair growth in this chosen area. Some patients will see results from their first treatment others will need up to 6 sessions to fully see results, we do recommend you complete the full 6 sessions for optimum results. Patients may be advised to come back every 6-12 months for “touch ups” to keep the consistency.

The guidance around Laser Hair Removal treatment is that you must shave the area 12-24 hours prior to your laser treatment to avoid any irritation and do not fake tan specify in the area being treated, staying free from tanning products for 2 weeks prior and to not actively sunbath 2 weeks prior and post treatment, including the patch test. In the Summer those guidelines can be a bit harder to follow, but in the Winter it can be easier to follow the rules around this treatment. Colder months mean our bodies are more covered which is protecting the treated areas from any sunlight and allows us to grow out the hair in the areas under the secrecy of clothing!
