Spring Skin Starter Guide

Spring (skincare) has sprung! Finally! After a long, cold winter, it’s time to spruce up all things skincare for the warmer months.

Winter takes its toll on our skin. The cold months and long nights make our skin dry and tired.

Furthermore, when the sun comes out we need to take extra precautions to protect our skin from the sun’s damaging rays!

Skin experts recommend switching up your skincare routine when there are changes in humidity and to sun exposure. So, now is the time to change your routine.

Don’t fear, here at The Cosmetic Centre we have come up with a spring skin starter guide. This guide is filled with helpful spring skin tips and suggestions to address winter dryness and achieve a springtime glow.

  • Moisturise

Time to swap out your heavy-duty cream for a lighter one. Thick creams are ideal for nourishing dry winter skin but applying them on warm, spring skin is a different story.

When the weather is cold and dry, we need to use thicker emollient moisturisers to reduce water loss, and keep moisture. As the temperature warms up heavy products can leave your skin feeling sticky and greasy — no thank you! Lighter moisturisers will feel much better and keep your skin hydrating and glowing rather than greasy (god-forbid).

  • Protect

We advocate wearing SPF all year round, as we all know exposure to the sun’s rays accelerates the skin’s ageing. As your exposure to the sun increases, up the factor of the SPF you’re wearing to increase protection from the sun’s rays. SPF 50+ is the best way to ensure none of those harmful rays infiltrate your skin all spring and summer long.

The same logic applies to choosing an SPF as it does to choose a new moisturiser, as it gets warmer; lighter is better. No one wants that SPF sheen reflecting off their face.

  • Exfoliate

In the winter, some choose to shy away from exfoliation as they are scared it will only exacerbate dry skin problems. Now Spring is here and the conditions are prime to re-introduce regular exfoliation into your routine. We recommend incorporating exfoliation into your routine once or twice a week to banish all the dead winter skin. Exfoliating will also provide a smooth base for your new lighter moisturiser.

For deeper exfoliation, we highly recommend you undergo a series of chemical peel treatments with us.

Chemical peels are used to address skin concerns such as pigmentation, acne, scarring and crucially dull, dehydrated post-winter skin. The chemical peel penetrates deeper than other topical exfoliants, into the skin’s surface and the epidermis. The skin peel removes the top layer of skin, stimulating cell growth and resulting in fresher, brighter and clearer spring skin.

  • Consistency

With skincare, consistency is so important. Exfoliation and moisturisation are not one-fix wonders, perfect your routine and stick to it for optimum results. No skipping your morning SPF application!

If you’re still unsure where to start, book a consultation with one of our skin experts and they will look at your skin and recommend a personalised routine and treatments perfect for you.
