National Skin Care Awareness Month

September is National Skin Care Awareness Month, a reminder to look after your skin for the upcoming winter months. After summer, increased sun exposure can make the skin appear dull and dehydrated. That is why it is crucial to revitalise your skin and keep up with your skincare routine.

Even if you have never visited a skin specialist before or are one of our regulars, we would always advise you to visit the clinic for a skin consultation to start your skincare journey. Here, we use the Visia Facial Imager to analyse the skin and discuss your concerns, allowing us to see into the deeper levels and create a bespoke treatment plan for you.

We recommend our patients have a skin treatment every month, as the top layer of our skin takes approximately 28 days to turn over. Committing to regular treatments, will allow the superficial, dull skin to get replaced by new, fresh cells. At The Cosmetic Centre, we offer a range of facial treatments to keep your skin in its best condition, including Chemical Peels, CPL and our AquaPure facial.

It is essential to accompany your treatments with a consistent skincare routine to keep your skin feeling and looking fresh, as 80% of your results will be due to your skincare! We offer a wide range of skincare products from our Everything You Need skincare range, containing optimal active ingredients to make a difference to your skin. We recommend sticking to your new products for at least six weeks to see results, as you need to wait to see the biological effect these products have on the deeper skin layers.

The crucial ingredient to everyone’s daily skincare routine is an SPF. You should wear a minimum of 30, but 50 would be ideal. As we are now at the end of the summer, this is not a reason to ditch the SPF. The sun is the number one cause of premature ageing, leading to skin thickening, pigmentation and wrinkles. However, UV rays are still present in winter and can still cause damage to the skin, so protecting your skin is essential to keeping your skin looking young and reducing these signs of ageing. At The Cosmetic Centre, we have a range of sunscreens available, so you can choose what works best for you.

Having a healthy lifestyle can have a positive impact on your skin. Ensuring you have at least 8 hours of sleep every night can keep the skin looking fresh as it repairs itself when the body is resting. The regeneration process can be up to three times faster at night, repairing damage from UV rays and boosting your collagen production. Research has even found that only getting 5 hours of sleep a night can lead to twice as many fine lines as sleeping for 7 hours, so it’s crucial to get your beauty sleep.

As you age, your body finds it harder to retain water, so it is essential to ensure you drink enough water throughout the day – ideally 6-8 glasses! Dehydration can lead to dark circles and reduce the skin’s elasticity, with those who drink the recommended water intake being less likely to suffer from fine lines, wrinkles and scars.

Start your skincare journey by booking a free skin consultation with one of our practitioners and devise your skincare plan.
